Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, June 19th (Reporter Lu Min) In 1995, 14-year-old Guo Jingjing came to Hong Kong for the first time. After the game, she followed her teammates to Ocean Park and tasted seafood. She looked at the city with freshness and curiosity. "Although it is small, it is prosperous and convenient." This is the first impression left by Hong Kong.
In 2012, 31-year-old Guo Jingjing married Huo Qigang, the eldest grandson of Henry Fok, and settled in Hong Kong.
She became one of the millions of "Newport people" who came to settle in Hong Kong from the mainland after Hong Kong’s return to the motherland. From learning to speak Cantonese, Guo Jingjing gradually got to know and adapt to Hong Kong.
Although she grew up in the north, as an athlete, Guo Jingjing’s adaptability is her strength. For Hong Kong, she thinks she has adapted "quickly".
In Guo Jingjing’s eyes, Hong Kong is very tolerant. "It doesn’t matter if a mainlander comes to Hong Kong and can’t speak Cantonese. Many people can speak Mandarin. When a foreigner comes to Hong Kong, it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t speak Cantonese, because many people can speak English. This is a city where Chinese and Western cultures are integrated. " Guo Jingjing said, "I think this is a unique charm of Hong Kong".
After living in Hong Kong for ten years, Guo Jingjing felt that her biggest change was to be more tolerant. "Many things will try to think and understand from different angles." She said with a smile, maybe it is the growth of age, maybe it is influenced by the inclusive urban temperament of Hong Kong.
She made many new friends, both Hong Kong natives and "Newport people" from the mainland. Their differences in educational background, growth environment and way of thinking have formed their own different characteristics.
When Guo Jingjing first came to Hong Kong, her husband’s grandmother was still alive. Every weekend, the whole family, old and young, will definitely have lunch with grandma. The strong family atmosphere impressed her deeply. "Recalling that I ate with my grandparents, I was reunited when I returned to my hometown in the New Year."
"Many Hong Kong people have big families and brothers and sisters. In contrast, our generation from the mainland is relatively independent, probably because it is an only child and everything depends on itself. " Guo Jingjing said.
The "Newport people" from the mainland dare to fight, and their independence and hard work make the locals look at each other with new eyes, which also makes them pay more attention to the mainland.
"Wow, so beautiful, so convenient!" Guo Jingjing had friends from Hong Kong who went to the mainland and lamented that "it was so different from what I thought".
"Our mainland may not have been so convenient before, and our development started relatively late. Therefore, many Hong Kong people of my age feel that the West is better and choose to go to the West for education. But in the last ten or twenty years, we have made rapid progress, and some aspects have even begun to surpass the West. " Guo Jingjing said that there are many Hong Kong friends around her who are considering sending their children to the mainland for education. "They want to know about the mainland and know some of our own stories."
Guo Jingjing is also going deeper into Hong Kong.
As an ambassador of the Hong Kong Committee of UNICEF, she actively participated in charitable activities, paid attention to the rights and interests of women and children, volunteered and visited? Room. Under the epidemic? To make matters worse, Guo Jingjing dressed in volunteer clothes, packed and distributed anti-epidemic materials, hoping to help them do basic protection.
"I think I should do my part, and I hope to appeal to more people to help these people in need." Guo Jingjing said.
Sports is Guo Jingjing’s old job, and it is also an area that she always pays attention to and loves.
Every time mainland Olympic athletes visit Hong Kong, they are warmly welcomed by Hong Kong people. Guo Jingjing is always as excited as a fan when she is present to support them. "Seeing the state and spirit of these outstanding athletes at the scene, I am really proud of them. Especially at the scene, it is very inspiring to hear them share their stories. " She said.
Hong Kong is a small place with limited resources. Relying on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and other provinces and cities in the Mainland, no matter the training venues, high-level coaches or players, it can help Hong Kong athletes to improve better. At the Tokyo Olympic Games held last year, Hong Kong athletes performed well and made a historic breakthrough in medal achievement.
"This is inseparable from the support of the state, sports exchanges with the mainland, and the SAR government’s investment in sports resources." Guo Jingjing said, "For the same goal, to do better together, sports have such power".
In 2025, Hong Kong will participate in hosting the National Games for the first time, and Guo Jingjing is looking forward to it. "There are many events in the National Games, and I hope more competitions can be held in Hong Kong, so that the public can see more exciting events. Of course, it is also very convenient between cities in Greater Bay Area. I hope that the epidemic will end as soon as possible. At that time, I can see the highest level of competition in our country, and I am very excited to think about it. "
After living in Hong Kong for ten years, Guo Jingjing became more fluent in Cantonese. She walked in the street with long hair and a long skirt, just like a Hong Kong girl. But she will miss her hometown with winter and snow. "I like four distinct seasons. It’s cold in winter, so I can wear thick clothes. When it snows, I can go out to play with snow.".
Guo Jingjing will tell children stories about her hometown and her childhood. "Before the epidemic, they will be taken back once or twice a year." Guo Jingjing said that now that children are growing up, they want to take them to see the hometown of giant pandas and go to some ethnic minority areas to let them know how big and beautiful their motherland is.
After 25 years of return to the motherland, Hong Kong is about to open a new chapter. In Guo Jingjing’s view, the country’s development is striding forward, and the overall environment in Hong Kong is getting better and better. Many Hong Kong people go north to pursue their dreams in the Mainland, and some mainlanders choose to come to Hong Kong for development. The two-way flow of talents has made Hong Kong and the Mainland increasingly close.
Guo Jingjing hopes that Hong Kong in the future will continue to play its unique advantages in the overall development of the country. "I hope that Hong Kong will be better and Hong Kong will certainly be better."
